I have some good news regarding our plans for age verification for AEGIS Kingdoms. I will preface this by saying I support the idea of an age-verified RP community, mainly as this provides a much safer environment for the community. Whilst we prohibit content of a sexual nature, it’s nice to know there is a process for ensuring the safety of the community beyond clicking a green button that says “I’m over 18”, giving peace of mind to adult players.
Simply, this is an update to the registration process for AEGIS Kingdoms. During the registration process, we will not be doing any credit-card based age verification (previously implemented by companies such as Steam etc and something we had, at one point, planned to do). Instead you’ll just need to enter your phone number, get a OTP texted to you, and then manually submit the code. This is inline with guidance from Ofcom for highly effective age assurance (as part of our legal duties being a UK studio).
Actual deployment is still a little unknown at this stage, though ideally we’ll be doing it through our forums registration process. However there are a few factors that will ultimately decide that for us in the coming weeks. I will be updating our risk assessments and the likes to reflect these changes, which can be found here.
