Hello Adventurers! Here are the patch notes for today’s update.
CURRENT QUEST OBJECTIVE:
- Scheduled the next internal test for Battlegrounds. Date is TBC, with the team still coordinating (being international). This features all the new fixes to try out from the 21st February 2025 internal test. These tests are trying to simulate production environments (normally concentrated stress load) on specific features.
NOTEWORTHY NEWS:
- A hardware resource issue was identified in the last test with our baby development realm (the realm is affectionately named ‘Avalon’). Avalon just didn’t quite have the horsepower needed to handle Battlegrounds. We’ve now rented out a temporary new dedicated machine we’re calling the ‘Public Test Realm‘ to perform some stress tests over March (and possibly April).
- The tests will give a good indication of what a typical realm (read: server where your main character lives permanently) can ‘handle’ at peak times. Essentially, this boils down to spamming the PTR with hundreds of AdventureBots™ from real player clients who will run around, kill stuff (and be killed) for a fun stress test.
- At this stage, the PTR is not yet ‘public’ but will be used for Open Weekends when they begin. The PTR is currently scalable at this point, so can be adjusted to suit the tests. This give us the best data for the live realms.
PATCH NOTES – 2nd March 2025
- NEW: The new UI has been added. For those of you who have participated in previous clashes over the last few years, this will be very different from the more cartoony-look of times past. A few non-essential panels have yet to be fully upgraded and will be done in the future.
- NEW: Male character customisation has been added inclusive of hair, beard and respective colours. (Female model unavailable for now).
- FIX: The Albium Armour ‘legs’ item was bugged, only showing the waist-cape and not the actual legs (which Snowbeard was rocking), has now been fixed.
- NEW: Minimap has been added.
- NEW: Battlegrounds registration button has been added temporarily to the main UI near the minimap. In the future this will be moved to a conversation with an NPC to facilitate players meeting up in person. For testing, this is quicker.
- NEW: ‘Area Map ‘has been added. (This is like a World Map, but just shows the area you’re in). In the future this will be upgraded to a full functioning world map. But at the moment it’s just a ‘more zoomed out minimap’.
- NEW: The new character controller has been implemented (the last test was using the old version).
- NEW: Slight changes to the way the character controller works, including LMB interactions. You can now select objects, items, monsters, click to move.
- NEW: Realms now show when they’re offline and online via a green / red icon.
- FIX: Ranged weapons have temporarily had their ‘magazines’ disabled to circumvent the reload bug.
- FIX: Sway / variation has been disabled for ranged weapons. In the future the missiles will home in onto targets to increase the balance between ranged vs melee combat.
- FIX: Battlegrounds instances launch correctly.
- FIX: Player nameplates have been fixed, no longer displaying placeholder information.
KNOWN BUGS:
- BUG: Corpse looting spams the server with errors when a player is within the vicinity.
- BUG: Minimap sometimes disables itself requiring a client restart.
- BUG: Click to move doesn’t rotate the character so it looks weird.
- BUG: Cannot talk with NPCs whilst using the new character controller. (Currently being fixed as I write this).
- BUG: Ranged weapons inexplicably consume vast amounts of remaining ammo on reload.
- BUG: Inventory hangs when opening, causing a large frame drop.
- BUG: Character profile doesn’t update equipment slots unless the inventory has been opened first.
- BUG: Battlegrounds timer doesn’t always activate.
- BUG: Click to move VFX marker doesn’t always show when using the new character controller.
- BUG: Warping has inaccuracies causing players to fall through the map when warping within the same map.
- BUG: Harvestables cannot be harvested when in streaming scenes.
